Visit highlights growing services in Maryland counties
Food & Friends was honored to be visited by First Lady of Maryland Yumi Hogan in late February. Over the past few years, the state has come to represent a growing portion of our services. Last year we delivered nearly 40 percent of our meals — that’s over 335,000 meals — to clients living in Maryland and we anticipate similar numbers in 2017.
Because of our growing footprint in Maryland, it was particularly meaningful to share our work with Mrs. Hogan, who was visiting our facility for the first time. After meeting some of our staff and touring the building, Mrs. Hogan jumped on the volunteer line to help package meals in preparation for delivery.
“We were thrilled and honored to have Mrs. Hogan visit. We appreciate her personal interest in our work,” said Food & Friends Executive Director Craig Shniderman. “We are grateful for Governor Hogan’s support and are proud to have served the state for 29 years.”
We know that food security, including specialized nutrition, is a key component of managing illness and reducing the cost of healthcare and other government-provided human services. Our partnership with the state of Maryland demonstrates a meaningful commitment to a healthier, more economically vibrant community.
“Our relationship with the State of Maryland is a true partnership that benefits Maryland’s most vulnerable citizens,” added Shniderman.
In addition to the First Lady, we welcomed Governor Hogan’s Deputy Chief of Staff, Tiffany Robinson, and several other members of the Governor’s office.
