On December 31, 2018, Craig Shniderman will complete his service as Executive Director of Food & Friends.
Craig has led Food & Friends out of the darkness of the AIDS epidemic and into the hope of providing all our neighbors who need our services with nutritious, home-delivered meals. He has our enduring gratitude, that of the staff, and that of thousands of our clients past, present and future.
In his December 20, 2017 letter to the board, Craig wrote…
“I became Executive Director of Food & Friends in April 1995. Twenty-two years later, I have come to respect this organization more deeply than words express. The many individuals who share in this endeavor inspire my best work and confirm my view that all good things are possible in the world. You can be certain that for the coming year I will sustain my commitment to Food & Friends and will continue to do my best in league with the outstanding people who make Food & Friends unique and important in our community. I’ll not retire but rather will reposition for what’s next, which will include both avocational interests and some new professional experiences.
On December 31, 2018, I will conclude my work as Executive Director and will transition to my next adventures. Until my last day on this job you may count on my leadership. My love for Food & Friends will endure as will my abiding affection for the remarkable staff, board members, donors, clients and volunteers.”
We thank Craig for all he has done for Food & Friends and for the Washington community.
While Craig’s contributions are immeasurable and his leadership extraordinary, Craig is the first to say that he is not irreplaceable. Food & Friends will carry on under new leadership. Happily, Craig has established a solid culture within the organization that will ease the transition. The new executive director will have the benefit of Craig’s hard work and good humor, as well as a well-established, talented, and motivated team with which to move Food & Friends forward.
In the coming months, the board of directors will retain a search consultant so as to assure careful consideration of the many well-qualified candidates who will apply for this position. A planning phase will precede the search and we will advise the public when the position is officially posted.
I have confidence that, while this is a period of great change and consequence for Food & Friends, it is also a great opportunity. Given our organization’s past history, I know that we will emerge with great leadership, ready to serve our community.
Peter Glassman, DVM
President of the Board, Food & Friends
