The No Senior Hungry Omnibus Act of 2021 by the D.C. Council would establish a task force to develop a city-wide response to senior food insecurity and would allow Medicaid to cover home-delivered meals and medical nutrition therapy. We believe food heals. The District’s senior population is projected to continue to grow to 17.4% by 2030, and 68% of the individuals we serve are 50+ years of age. This legislation would help us meet current and future community needs. We are currently serving more than 2,700 seniors.
One of our seniors, Chekita shares, “I have been with Food & Friends for a long time. I am grateful for everything they deliver. The freshly prepared meals are always quicker and easier for me when I am not feeling well.” This legislation would create opportunities for us to serve more seniors like Chekita.
