
April 7–13 is Food Waste Prevention Week, and we’re taking you behind the scenes with our very own Executive Chef Rasheed Abdurrahman! Food Waste Prevention Week 2025, is a week-long online and in-person awareness campaign to inspire cultural changes that reduces food waste at home, work, and in our communities.
In the fall of 2024, Food & Friends launched an ambitious initiative to reduce kitchen waste through composting. Every day, our professionally trained chefs and dedicated volunteers prepare more than 5,000 medically tailored meals for neighbors living with serious illnesses.
To reduce our impact on the environment, Chef Rasheed worked closely with our Facilities team to create a composting system that lets us reuse our kitchen scraps—making sure everything from potato skins to carrot peels goes back into the earth.
