Associate Director of Annual Giving

Founded in 1988, Food & Friends provides medically-tailored meals, nutrition support, and friendship to people living with AIDS, cancer, and other life-challenging illnesses. Our team of sixty employees and thousands of volunteers delivers meals and hope to people living in the District of Columbia and multiple counties across Maryland and Virginia. There is no charge or income qualification for our services, which are rendered solely on the basis of medical need.

Responsible for raising $1.3 million, the Associate Director of Annual Giving will provide leadership, strategy, and management for integrated annual giving programs (digital and offline) to include direct marketing, prospecting, the monthly sustainer program, and the mid-level giving program. The Associate Director will:

  • develop integrated solicitation and stewardship strategies, as well as the annual budget, for all annual giving programs;
  • supervise the Individual Giving Associate and his/her management of the direct mail program;
  • design digital and offline fundraising campaigns utilizing a variety of media with targeted messaging, data segmentation, and personalization;
  • serve as relationship manager for monthly and mid-level giving programs, and engage in regular donor stewardship activities to include special events and personalized outreach;
  • collaborate with other development professionals to manage the moves management process and develop strategy to upgrade donors into major giving; and
  • regularly monitor, analyze, and evaluate annual giving results and benchmarking reports in order to continuously hone the efficacy of annual giving programs.

This position requires a highly collaborative fundraising professional who can succeed while working independently and as part of a team.

The successful candidate will have a BA/BS, and at least five years of relevant nonprofit experience, including two years of integrated direct marketing and acquisition management experience, and at least one year of supervisory experience. Other requirements include experience devising digital and offline cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies; experience writing fundraising materials; superb written and verbal communication skills; and an appreciation for diversity. Experience with a social service agency or large development office, and knowledge of Luminate (Convio) and Raiser’s Edge are a plus. Offer of employment contingent upon a pre-employment drug test.
