Director of Development: Philanthropic Partnerships

Food & Friends provides medically-tailored meals, nutrition counseling, and friendship to people living with AIDS, cancer, and other life-challenging illnesses. Our team of sixty employees and thousands of volunteers delivers meals and hope to people living in the District of Columbia and several counties across Maryland and Virginia. There is no charge or income qualification for our services, which are rendered solely on the basis of medical need.

We seek a Director of Development: Philanthropic Partnerships to provide strategic direction and oversight for corporate, foundation, and special event fundraising.  Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Director will:

  • Collaborate with the executive and communications teams to craft Food & Friends’ value proposition for corporate and foundation partnerships;
  • Supervise two senior professionals in charge of events and foundation grants;
  • Provide oversight and strategic guidance for corporate and foundation pipeline development;
  • Manage, develop, and solicit a portfolio of corporate donors;
  • Identify, engage, and cultivate prospective corporate donors by attending networking events, engaging in prospect research, and collaborating with Volunteer Services on corporate initiatives;
  • Write tailored and persuasive corporate proposals, and develop marketing materials for print and the web; and
  • Work with the Chief Development Officer to develop and track Key Performance Indicators.

The successful candidate will have a BA/BS; at least six years of demonstrated success in corporate relations, sales, fundraising, or related role; a valid driver’s license; and at least two years of supervisory experience. Must have closed gifts or business to business sales of $100,000 or more.  Additional requirements include knowledge of special events, superb communication skills, excellent time management skills, a passion for the mission of Food & Friends, and an appreciation for diversity.  Offer of employment contingent upon a pre-employment drug test.
