Groceries Assistant

Founded in 1988, Food & Friends provides medically-tailored meals, nutrition support, and friendship to people living with AIDS, cancer, and other life-challenging illnesses. Our team of sixty employees and thousands of volunteers delivers meals and hope to people living in the District of Columbia and multiple counties across Maryland and Virginia. There is no charge or income qualification for our services, which are rendered solely on the basis of medical need.

We seek a Groceries Assistant to work in our food pantry. The Assistant will:

  • pack bags of dry and canned goods for clients;
  • provide direction to volunteers and oversee their work;
  • receive and store deliveries;
  • help with inventory and organization of food products;
  • breakdown and remove cardboard boxes; and
  • assist with cleaning of grocery area.

This unique opportunity is perfect for a hard-working individual who enjoys contributing to the community and meeting new people. The Groceries Assistant will work a Tuesday thru Saturday schedule with daytime hours.

The successful candidate will have a high school diploma, and one year of work experience, preferably in a grocery or food establishment. Additional requirements include ability to be physically mobile, lift up to 50 pounds, and stand for long periods of time; good communication skills; basic arithmetic skills; ability to use a computer; ability to work patiently with people of varying ages and skills; and an appreciation for diversity. Offer of employment contingent upon a pre-employment drug test.
