Individual Giving Associate

Founded in 1988, Food & Friends provides freshly prepared meals, nutrition support, and friendship to people living with AIDS, cancer, and other life-challenging illnesses. Our team of sixty employees and thousands of volunteers delivers meals and hope to people living in the District of Columbia and multiple counties across Maryland and Virginia. There is no charge or income qualification for our services, which are rendered solely on the basis of medical need.

Reporting to the Director of Annual Giving, the Individual Giving Associate plays a key role in growing the organization’s individual donor base. The Associate is responsible for managing the direct mail program and achieving budgeted revenue goals for that program. Specifically, the Associate will:

  • develop and implement creative and donor-centered direct marketing campaigns across all direct/email fundraising channels to attract and retain donors, and increase their level of support;
  • manage vendors and logistics related to the direct mail program;
  • manage the creative review and print process for fundraising appeals, to include editing proofs and coordinating the approval process across upper management;
  • prepare and manage a direct marketing calendar to develop timelines and ensure that campaigns adhere to deadlines;
  • work with vendors and team members to test, monitor, evaluate and implement existing and new interactive channels that allow two-way engagement with donors;
  • report regularly on direct mail results, comparing them to benchmarks and assessing overall return on investment; and
  • engage in donor stewardship to include phone calls, personal emails, and handwritten notes.

Additionally, the Associate will work with other development professionals to identify donors who can be moved up to the donor pipeline to higher levels of giving.

The successful candidate will have a BA/BS, and at least two years of relevant experience in direct mail and/or mail production. Other requirements include experience working with Raiser’s Edge and Luminate; strong writing and proofreading skills; proven project management skills; skill in engaging in data analytics and segmentation; ability to meet tight deadlines; and the ability and willingness to work with diverse populations. Offer of employment contingent upon a pre-employment drug test.
