On-Call Chef

Founded in 1988, Food & Friends provides medically-tailored prepared meals, nutrition support, and friendship to people living with AIDS, cancer, and other life-challenging illnesses. Our team of sixty employees and thousands of volunteers delivers meals and hope to people living in the District of Columbia and multiple jurisdictions across Maryland and Virginia. There is no charge or income qualification for our services, which are rendered solely on the basis of medical need.

We seek an On-Call Chef to work occasionally during periods of low staffing or unusually heavy workloads. With an on-call status, there is no guaranteed number of hours, and scheduling is at the mutual convenience of Food & Friends and on-call staff.

When assigned a shift, the On-Call Chef will work alongside our regular culinary team and volunteers preparing a variety of side dishes, entrees, and baked goods. This is a great opportunity for someone who has a flexible schedule or broad availability during daytime or early evening business hours. On-Call staff make a good hourly wage, and contribute to Food & Friends’ charitable mission of helping neighbors in need.

Requirements include at least one year of relevant professional experience, or a degree from a culinary school. Additionally, the On-Call Chef must have good communication skills and an appreciation for diversity. Job offer contingent upon a pre-employment drug test.
