Originally from Lafayette, LA, Chef Kevin Tien started working in the corporate world, but a career change inspired by a passion for food and service placed him on a culinary path in 2009. Prior to opening Himitsu in 2016, Kevin worked under Chefs Aaron Silverman, David Chang, José Andrés, and Tyson Cole. Kevin and Himitsu have earned accolades from all corners of the US. In 2017, Kevin was selected as a Rising Star Chef of the Year Semifinalist by the James Beard Foundation, and Himitsu was named Eater DC’s Restaurant of the Year.
“Most of us who get into the culinary world love it because it makes those around us feel taken care of, part of a family, and, maybe even loved. To me, it doesn’t matter who you are, at the end of the day, food is something that connects everyone. I’ve always believed that a good meal can change your day for the better. I try to do that in my restaurant for every guest, and I admire how Food & Friends does that for those in need.”
