WHAT: A wonderful D.C. tradition continues this Thanksgiving, as Food & Friends’ staff and hundreds of volunteers prepare and deliver 3,500 complete holiday meals to children and adults in the D.C. region facing HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-challenging illnesses. Staff and volunteers are preparing 8,520 pounds of turkey, 1,065 pounds of roasted potatoes, 1,065 pounds of cornbread stuffing, and 5,680 dinner rolls the three days leading up to Thanksgiving. The week culminates with the massive assembling and delivering of the meals on Thanksgiving morning. Each Thanksgiving delivery will feed five people, giving clients the opportunity to host dinner for friends and family.

WHEN: November 23 – 25, throughout the day, and Thanksgiving Day, November 26, from 4:45 a.m. – 11 a.m.

WHO: Every year, elected leaders, public officials and Washington’s professional sports teams join their D.C.-area neighbors in rolling up their sleeves and donning their hairnets to help feed those in need of a little more comfort this time of year. Reporters and cameras are invited into the Food & Friends kitchen Nov 23 – 25 as chefs and volunteers prepare the Thanksgiving meals. On Thanksgiving Day, media are invited to cover the massive packing operation, which includes hundreds of cheering volunteers. Opportunities to accompany a delivery and interview a meal recipient are available upon request. Interview opportunities include Food & Friends’ CEO, chefs and volunteers.
