In honor of Parkinson’s Awareness Month, Community Dietitian Jenn Krasilovsky joined us to share more about how Food & Friends serves neighbors living with this challenging condition.
Parkinson’s is a neurodegenerative disorder that can make it difficult to chew and consume enough calories and essential nutrients. Last fall, our team of chefs and dietitians developed a specialized pureed diet that is easy to swallow. Our rigorous process includes preparing, freezing, defrosting, and reheating purees to replicate the experience of our clients, ensuring consistency and quality in every meal.
As a result, our pureed meals are packed with nutrition to prevent unintended weight and muscle loss, a common problem for those who have trouble swallowing. Today, our clients living with Parkinson’s can continue to enjoy meals safely, without the stress or discomfort of struggling to swallow.
