Founded in 1988, Food & Friends provides freshly prepared meals, nutrition support, and friendship to people living with AIDS, cancer, diabetes, and other life challenging illnesses. Our team of sixty-five employees and thousands of volunteers delivers meals and hope to people living in the District of Columbia and multiple counties across Maryland and Virginia. There is no charge or income qualification for our services, which are rendered solely on the basis of medical need.
We seek a Food Packing Manager to manage all aspects of packing and expediting home delivered meals to our clients. The Manager will:
- Supervise two expeditors and multiple volunteers
- Oversee the packing of meals to ensure that each client receives the correct meal and nutrition supplements, and that meal bags are correctly labeled for delivery;
- Coordinate all preparations for meal packaging and delivery, such as printing labels and liaising with programmatic departments regarding delivery changes;
- Manage ordering of fresh produce, nutrition supplements, meal bags, labels, and other delivery essentials;
- Conduct period inventory to ensure sufficient stock of expediting supplies; and
- Pack meal bags as needed in collaboration with staff and volunteers.

The successful candidate will have a BA/BS or equivalent experience, valid driver’s license, and at least three years of relevant experience, including supervisory experience. Other requirements include the ability to be physically mobile, able to stand for long periods of time, and lift up to 50 lbs.; ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment; ability to give clear instructions verbally and in writing; strong sense of organization; willingness to accept sudden changes in procedure or priority; and a willingness to work with diverse populations. Offer of employment contingent upon a pre-employment drug test and proof of vaccination—including booster—against COVID-19 (exemption from vaccination requirement will be considered for disability or a sincerely held religious belief, practice, or observance).
