
Founded in 1988, Food & Friends provides medically-tailored meals, nutrition support, and friendship to people living with AIDS, cancer, diabetes, and other life-challenging illnesses. Our team of sixty-five employees and thousands of volunteers delivers meals and hope to people living in the District of Columbia and fourteen counties across Maryland and Virginia. There is no charge or income qualification for our services, which are rendered solely on the basis of medical need.
The newly created position of Senior Philanthropy Officer will work to expand Food & Friends’ major donor and planned giving programs. Reporting to the Director of Development for Individual Philanthropy, the Senior Philanthropy Officer will:
- Identify, research, qualify, solicit, and steward donors and prospects to successfully close major gifts ($5,000+) for the annual fund and leadership gifts for the capital campaign;
- Use “moves management” to build, manage, and motivate a portfolio of 100 to 125 donors and qualified prospects;
- Strategically develop individual solicitations that incorporate a variety of giving options and financial instruments;
- Collaborate with colleagues to identify and qualify/disqualify donors at all levels of giving to ensure proper placement in giving channels;
- Supervise the Donor Relations Manager;
- Develop and deliver regular reports and briefings to senior leadership; and
- Use Raiser’s Edge to report and track progress.

The successful candidate will have a BA/BS, and at least 6 years of development experience, including supervisory experience and a minimum of 2 years raising gifts of $10,000+. Must have proven experience with donor research, donor cultivation, direct solicitation, and stewardship. Driver’s license required.
