
Food & Friends provides medically-tailored meals, nutrition counseling, and friendship to people living with HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other life challenging illnesses. Our team of seventy employees and thousands of volunteers delivers meals and hope to people living in the District of Columbia and several counties across Maryland and Virginia. There is no charge or income qualification for our services, which are rendered solely on the basis of medical need.
Food & Friends produces some of the most popular and successful fundraising events in Washington, including the Chef’s Best gala and Slice of Life Thanksgiving pie sale. Reporting to the Director of Development for Philanthropic Partnerships, the Special Events Director will:
· Plan and execute all event logistics, including budget, timeline, vendor selection, marketing, volunteer recruitment, and post-event assessment;
· Collaborate with Development personnel to design and update event microsites and webpages;
· Manage peer-to-peer fundraising platforms and marketing to encourage third-party events;
· Collaborate with Development staff to identify event sponsorship opportunities and solicit prospects;
· Draft, design, and edit event collateral;
· Develop and manage event budgets including sponsorship revenue, ticket sales, auctions, and raffles.
· Cultivate and steward strong relationships with various constituencies and potential sponsors, particularly local restaurants;
· In collaboration with Volunteer Services, recruit, train, and manage event volunteers; and
· Update and manage donor records in Raiser’s Edge to ensure that all gifts, guest lists, and prospects are tracked and acknowledged.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced fundraising events professional to contribute to the mission of a growing charitable organization. Must be willing to work on-site.
The successful candidate will have a BA/BS, a minimum of six years of combined experience in event management and fundraising, and a valid driver’s license. Other requirements include advanced knowledge of event fundraising techniques and practices; superb project management skills; experience with event fundraising software and platforms (Raiser’s Edge a plus); excellent communication skills; the ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment; ability to quickly adapt to changes in priority or rapidly evolving contingencies; strong leadership skills, including effective delegation skills; and an appreciation for diversity.
