Written by: Abigail Seiler
Washington, DC (January 2, 2019)—Food & Friends is proud to announce Leslye Wooley as the nonprofit’s new Director of Program Services. Ms. Wooley comes to Food & Friends from a long career at the National Capital Area Command of the Salvation Army. In her new capacity, she will oversee all of Food & Friends’ client and nutrition services, kitchen and delivery operations, and volunteer program.
“I’m thrilled to be joining an organization with such a deep history in the D.C-area community,” said Wooley. “You can tell when you walk through the door that Food & Friends is a special place. I’m excited to be a part of that energy and help shape its future.”
“Leslye is a dynamic addition to the Food & Friends leadership team,” said Executive Director Carrie Stoltzfus. “She brings a wealth of experience managing complex operations and her commitment to improving the lives of our fellow neighbors has been evident throughout her career.”
Leslye E. Wooley earned her juris doctor degree and a Master's Degree in Social Work from Syracuse University and has worked in the fields of child welfare and homeless services for the last 16 years. Most recently, Ms. Wooley has held the position of the Director of Program Services for The Salvation Army’s National Capital Area Command. In this capacity, she directed program development and administration for all of The Salvation Army’s social services programming across the D.C. metropolitan area.
Ms. Wooley recently served on the DC Interagency Council on Homelessness’s Women’s Task Force in 2017-18. And she has also served as the Local Board Chair for the Emergency Food and Shelter Program in Washington, DC since 2007.
This position was previously held by Carrie Stoltzfus, MPH, who was selected to take over as Executive Director following a national search this past fall. Long-time Executive Director Craig Shniderman retired at the end of 2018 following more than 23 years with Food & Friends.
