Bill Thorne Elected New President of Food & Friends Board of Directors
WASHINGTON, D.C. (Dec. 13, 2023) Food & Friends announced the selection of a new board president, Bill Thorne, for a term of two years. This appointment comes at a pivotal time in the organization’s history, advancing the mission to improve the lives and health of people with HIV/AIDS, cancer, diabetes, and other life-challenging illnesses that limit their ability to provide nourishment for themselves.
Thorne, senior vice president for communications and public affairs at the National Retail Federation, has served as a dedicated member of the Food & Friends board of directors for nine years, actively contributing to its increased impact. His extensive background in implementing communication strategies, advocacy, policy, and brand guidance makes him exceptionally qualified to continue to help propel the success of Food & Friends.
“We are incredibly fortunate to have high-performing, knowledgeable, capable, and committed leaders on our board of directors,” said Carrie Stoltzfus, MPH, executive director of Food & Friends. “Bill is an exceptionally gifted communicator, and convenor, who bridges connections to purpose and mission. His tenure of service has helped Food & Friends reach more people with life-sustaining nutrition interventions, and enhance awareness about our work.”
“Food & Friends looks forward to continuing to build on tremendous progress under the leadership of Bill, in collaboration with our diverse and accomplished board members.”
Food & Friends is the only community-based organization in the D.C. region providing home-delivered medically tailored meals and medical nutrition therapy to our neighbors living with cancer, HIV/AIDS, and other serious illnesses.
“I am honored to serve as the next board president of Food & Friends,” said
Thorne. “I am grateful to my fellow board members for their trust and confidence in giving me this opportunity. Since the very beginning, this organization has led the ‘Food is Medicine’ movement which is now taking the national stage. It is our mission to continue expanding the reach and impact of this critical service for those with life-challenging illnesses in communities large and small throughout D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia.”
