30 Million Meals Delivered
Since 1988, we’ve worked to ensure that our clients across D.C., Maryland, and Virginia can receive the nutrition they need while managing serious illnesses. On July 11th, Food & Friends reached an exciting milestone in delivering its 30 millionth meal.

This year, Food & Friends also became the first accredited organization under the Food is Medicine Coalition’s Medically Tailored Meal Intervention Accreditation Program. We’re so proud of this significant achievement, and we look forward to serving our community over the next 30 million meals!
Stay Tuned!
We’re excited to announce that our website is getting an overhaul to better serve you! We’re currently developing a new section called the “Client Corner” on the Food & Friends website. This page will serve as a convenient resource for clients to stay in the loop for all things Food & Friends. Coming soon, clients will be able to check for updates to delivery schedules and menus, find important contact information and required forms, explore recipes from our Nutrition Team, and sign up for upcoming events.
As we work on the revamped site, we would love to have input from you! If you have suggestions or ideas for the new page, please share them in our survey available HERE. Your feedback will be crucial in helping us create the most useful resource for you. You can also call our Client Services team at (202) 269-6886 to share your ideas.
Be on the lookout for more Client Social Hours and Nutrition Webinars in the coming months. These events are another great opportunity to connect with our community and to engage with Food & Friends’ services.

Nutrition Services Recipe
Matthew Walker, RD, of our Nutrition Services team has created a series of video cooking lessons called “Nutrition in the Kitchen.” Join Matt as he guides you step-by-step in creating delicious and nutritious meals at home! In this episode, Matt shares how to prepare Pasta E Ceci. Follow along with the full recipe steps below:

Ingredients:
- 1 bunch Kale
- 1 15.5 oz can of diced tomatoes
- 1 pack of pasta (smaller shapes recommended)
- 1 15.5 oz can of chickpeas
- 1 Spanish onion
- 3 cloves of garlic
- Olive oil
- Salt and pepper
- Rosemary
- Chili flakes
Instructions:
- Dice the onion. Remove the kale leaves from the stems, then chop the leaves into bite-sized pieces and finely dice the stems. Place all the chopped vegetables in a strainer and wash them thoroughly. Set it aside.
- Drain and rinse the canned chickpeas.
- Heat a Dutch oven or stockpot over medium-low heat. Add a small amount of olive oil and spread it evenly in the pot.
- Add the diced onions and kale stems, stirring occasionally. A pinch of salt can help the vegetables release their moisture more quickly.
- Peel and finely chop the garlic cloves. Add the minced garlic to the stew, stirring to prevent it from burning.
- Add chili flakes and rosemary to taste, stirring to combine.
- Add the can of diced tomatoes and the drained chickpeas, mixing well.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then add the pasta. Cook for about 10 minutes, or one minute less than the package instructions indicate.
- Season the stew with salt and pepper to taste.
- Add the chopped kale leaves to the stew, mixing well.
- Once the pasta is al dente and the kale leaves are tender, the dish is ready to serve. Enjoy!
