At Food & Friends, volunteers are more than helping hands, they are a vital part of delivering nourishment, compassion, and hope to thousands of neighbors living with serious illnesses across the D.C. region.
DC News Now recently highlighted Director of Volunteer Services, Katrina Mathis, during their “DMV Doers” feature and her efforts to lead more than 4,500 volunteers supporting Food & Friends’ mission of preparing and delivering medically tailored meals to people facing cancer, HIV/AIDS, diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, and other life-challenging illnesses. A career that has been filled with public service, Katrina credited Food & Friends’ success to the extraordinary impact volunteers make every day by helping ensure clients receive the nutritious meals they need to heal and thrive.
“Volunteering at some places is nice, but volunteering at Food & Friends is necessary,” Katrina says.
