Food & Friends is proud to be featured in a new article from the Maryland Academy of Family Physicians (MDAFP) exploring Maryland’s growing Food Is Medicine movement and the state’s new Medically Tailored Meals (MTM) program.
The article highlights the Maryland Department of Health’s pilot program, which connects eligible Maryland residents living with diabetes to medically tailored meals, nutrition counseling and other nutrition supports. Food & Friends and Moveable Feast are partnering with the state to deliver meals directly to participants’ homes.
The program reflects a growing recognition that access to nutritious, medically appropriate food can be an important part of managing chronic conditions and addressing food insecurity. Food & Friends has been providing medically tailored meals to the region for nearly 40 years. In 2025, we delivered 2.2 million meals to 6,200 individuals across the region.
As Maryland continues to expand its Food Is Medicine efforts, Food & Friends is proud to help connect healthcare, nutrition and food access to improve health and strengthen communities.
