WASHINGTON, D.C. (Dec. 20, 2023) Food & Friends welcomed 70 members of Marriott International’s leadership team, who donated 200 hours of volunteer service and packed 12,000 medically tailored meals, providing nourishment for more than 700 adults and children with life-challenging illnesses during the 2023 holiday season.
As part of their Serve 360: Doing Good in Every Direction sustainability and social impact platform, Marriott has committed to contributing 15 million hours of volunteer service by 2025, among their many other exemplary corporate social responsibility efforts.
The company’s service at Food & Friends comes at a time of escalating demand for the organization’s nutrition services, with the number of medically tailored meals home-delivered each year increasing by 75%, from 1.2 million in 2019 to 1.9 million in 2023.
“We’re proud of the long history of partnership between Food & Friends and Marriott and look forward to more to come! It was an absolute joy to welcome Marriott International’s executive team who enthusiastically donated their service in support of neighbors in need. They packaged thousands of medically tailored meals and wrapped dozens of gifts for kids in our community.
“Marriott International also generously donated brand-new laptops to our staff and fuel cards for our volunteer drivers. Food & Friends is grateful for their dedication, especially during the holidays” said Carrie Stoltzfus, MPH executive director.
Food & Friends is the only community-based organization in the D.C. region providing home-delivered medically tailored meals and medical nutrition therapy to our neighbors living with cancer, HIV/AIDS, and other serious illnesses.
Anthony Capuano, president, and chief executive officer at Marriott International said, “We were grateful for the opportunity to build on our long tradition of Marriott associates and family members volunteering with Food & Friends in support of their incredible mission in the city of our founding. Thank you to Food & Friends Executive Director Carrie Stoltzfus and their entire team for hosting us and for all you do to serve the greater Washington, DC community.”
About Food & Friends
Our mission is to improve the lives and health of people with HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other serious illnesses that limit their ability to provide nourishment for themselves by: preparing and delivering medically tailored meals and groceries that are designed to meet the medical and dietary needs of each of our clients; providing nutritional counseling and wellness education that enhances our clients’ quality of life; and creating a strong sense of community for both our clients and volunteers that reduces the social isolation that often comes with serious illnesses and provides meaningful opportunities for neighbors to help neighbors in need.
