Thank you so much for thinking of joining us at Food & Friends this Thanksgiving season. Without you, we would not be able to provide more than 3,500 Thanksgiving meals to our clients facing life-challenging illnesses. Your support makes it possible for each client to not only receive a Thanksgiving meal but to host their friends and loved ones for the holiday.
We hope you can join us in one of the many volunteer opportunities we have this week!
Volunteers for Slice of Life serve as Food & Friends’ representatives at each of our pie pick-up locations on Tuesday, November 26th. Volunteers will set up a pie pick-up station and assist customers as they arrive. Shifts are approximately 3 hours and are available from 11:30am-8:30pm. We will provide all of the materials needed and each volunteer will receive a Slice of Life t-shirt to wear and keep as a small token of our appreciation.
Assist with the Thanksgiving food preparation and packing groceries in our kitchen.
Kitchen shifts last two to three hours and are available at 8:00 am, 9:00 am, 1:00 pm, 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm. Kitchen volunteers must be at least 14 years old and accompanied by a parent or guardian if under the age of 18.
Assist with the holiday food preparation and packing groceries in our kitchen. Kitchen shifts last two to three hours and are available at 6:30 am, 9 am, and 11 am. Kitchen volunteers must be at least 14 years old and accompanied by a parent or guardian if under the age of 18.
Thanksgiving Meal Delivery
On Thanksgiving Day you will deliver meals to 2-4 clients living in D.C., Maryland or Virginia. Clients will receive a complete turkey dinner for 5 people so that they can host their friends and family for the holiday. There are four delivery shifts: 8:00 am, 9:00 am, 10:00 am, and 11:00 am.
Volunteers must use their own vehicle, have a valid driver’s license, and clean driving record. The driver must be at least 18, but there is no lower age limit for passengers, making this a great activity for the whole family.
Thanksgiving Pilgrims help with the logistics of Thanksgiving Day. Volunteer positions include greeting kitchen and delivery volunteers, helping to load delivery bags into vans and assisting with traffic control. Volunteers may be positioned inside or outside of the building during their shift. Pilgrim shifts are held either from 6:30-8:15 am, 8:00-10:15 am and 10:00-12:00 pm. No children under 18 are allowed.
