Volunteer Vaccine Policy

As of July 1, 2021, Food & Friends will only allow fully vaccinated volunteers who have submitted proof of vaccination to our Human Resources team.

We are making this a requirement because Food & Friends needs to be able to increase its food production and ensure the health and safety of our clients during deliveries, and the only way we can do both of those is to increase the number of volunteers on-site and eliminate social distancing.  And to do that, we need to know that all of our volunteers have been fully vaccinated against COVID.

Because of these changes, it is essential that all volunteers be vaccinated until the CDC and DC Health eliminate the mask and social distancing mandates for those who are unvaccinated. See the information below for more details on our updated policies.

Until July 1, all volunteers should continue to wear a mask.

Fully Vaccinated Volunteers

Kitchen and Delivery Volunteers must be fully vaccinated. While kitchen volunteers can opt not to wear their face masks, we are asking that delivery volunteers and passengers wear masks while delivering to client homes.  You may submit your proof of vaccination before July 1, but at a minimum, proof must be submitted three (3) days prior to your scheduled shift. Anyone who is eligible for the vaccine who volunteers with Food & Friends in any capacity should submit proof of vaccination by the deadline.

Unvaccinated Volunteers

We understand the many reasons why some cannot be or have chosen not to be vaccinated. If you know that you will not be fully vaccinated by July 1, we kindly ask you to cancel any upcoming shifts, and we look forward to having you back as soon as your vaccination is complete.  If you do not plan to become vaccinated, we want to thank you for everything you do for Food & Friends, and we look forward to having you back as soon as CDC and DC Health guidance regarding masks and social distancing for unvaccinated people changes.

Proof of Vaccination & Logistics

 Starting today, volunteers can submit their proof of vaccination using the directions below.  We encourage you to submit your proof of vaccination before July 1.  Remember, you are fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving a second dose of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Vaccinated volunteers will have the option to volunteer without a mask at Food & Friends, although anyone who is more comfortable wearing a mask may continue to do so.

Volunteers can submit their proof of vaccination to Lucas Ginn, Director of Human Resources. Your information will be kept confidential, and it will only be seen and handled by our HR department.  Please do not copy Volunteer Services on any other department when submitting your proof of vaccination. There are three ways you can submit this documentation; please choose one.

  1. Email a copy of your vaccination card to Vaccine@FoodandFriends.org (one handy suggestion is to take a picture of your card on your cell phone and then email it);
  2. Mail a copy of your vaccination card to Food & Friends 219 Riggs Road, NE 20011, ATTN: Lucas Ginn;
  3. Bring your vaccination card to Reception, where we will make a copy for you and provide the copy to our Human Resources team on your behalf.

Vaccinated Youth Volunteers

Youth aged 12 and older volunteering at Food & Friends are required to be vaccinated and submit proof using the same directions listed above. We’re encouraging you to submit your proof of vaccination before July 1, but at a minimum, proof must be submitted three (3) days prior to your scheduled shift.

Vaccinated Volunteers and Staff

All staff and volunteers are welcome to wear masks regardless of their vaccination status.
